Financial Aid Advisor - Boonshoft School of Medicine

The Financial Aid Advisor serves as the primary financial aid resource for students in the Boonshoft School of Medicine (BSOM). Reporting through the Wright State University Office of Financial Aid, this position provides comprehensive financial aid counseling, supports regulatory compliance, manages student financial aid data and reporting, and develops financial literacy programming for medical students. The Financial Aid Advisor partners with university offices, external organizations, and medical school leadership to ensure students receive accurate guidance, timely financial aid services, and educational resources that support informed financial decision-making throughout their medical education.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree. One year of professional experience in financial aid, higher education administration, advising, accounting, bookkeeping, counseling, customer service, budget management, student services, or a related field. Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret data to support decision-making. Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Ability to learn and effectively utilize multiple software systems and databases.

Commitment to providing exceptional customer service and student support. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Two or more years of financial aid experience. Experience working in higher education, student services, or medical education. Experience interpreting and applying federal, state, or institutional regulations. Experience with student information systems, financial aid systems, or records management. Experience preparing reports, analyzing data, and supporting compliance or accreditation activities. Experience delivering presentations, workshops, or financial literacy programming.

Essential Functions and percent of time:
Student Financial Aid Advising (40%) Serve as the primary point of contact for BSOM students regarding financial aid programs, processes, and eligibility requirements. Advise students and families throughout the financial aid lifecycle, including application, awarding, disbursement, loan management, and repayment planning. Assist students with completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and special or unusual circumstance appeals.

Communicate financial aid policies, procedures, deadlines, and responsibilities through individual consultations, presentations, written correspondence, and electronic communications. Collaborate with the Office of Financial Aid processing team to ensure accurate and timely delivery of aid. Interpret federal, state, and institutional financial aid regulations and apply them to individual student situations. Resolve complex student financial aid issues by coordinating with university departments and external agencies.

Maintain current knowledge of federal regulations, financial aid programs, and industry best practices.

Essential Functions and percent of time (cont'd):
Financial Aid Compliance, Data Management, and Reporting (30%) Monitor and maintain student financial aid records to ensure accuracy and compliance with institutional, state, and federal requirements. Conduct audits and reviews of financial aid data and processes to identify discrepancies and support compliance efforts. Generate, analyze, and distribute financial aid and enrollment reports using university and medical school reporting tools. Track and monitor key student populations, including students receiving financial aid, dual-degree students, and off-cycle enrollees.

Assist with the review and maintenance of Cost of Attendance budgets and related financial aid data. Support accreditation, compliance, and institutional reporting requirements by collecting and analyzing program data. Assist in monitoring Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements for federal financial aid eligibility. Participate in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of financial aid policies, procedures, and internal controls.

Financial Literacy and Student Education (25%) Develop and deliver financial literacy programming tailored to medical students. Coordinate workshops, presentations, and educational events focused on borrowing, budgeting, debt management, and financial wellness. Present financial aid information during orientation, boot camps, and other student programs. Collaborate with BSOM departments, university partners, and professional organizations to enhance student financial education initiatives. Coordinate event logistics and provide training and guidance to staff involved in financial aid outreach activities.

Other Duties (5%) Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
