The Dayton VA Medical Center is preparing for implementation of the Electronic Health Record Modernization (EHRM) system and requires temporary laboratory support.
The contractor shall provide Medical Laboratory Technologists (MTs) and/or Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLTs) to deliver comprehensive laboratory services consistent with national standards, including those established by the College of American Pathologists (CAP).
Number of Positions2.0–3.0 FTE Total:
- Either:
- 2 Medical Technologists (MT), OR
- 2 Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLT), OR
- 1 MT and 1 MLT
(Additionally, 3 Phlebotomists under the same contract – separate role)
Period of Performance- 6-Month Base Period
- 1 Optional 6-Month Extension
- Anticipated Credentialing Time: 6–8 weeks
- Partner Bill Rate: $68.15/hour
- SCA Wage Determination (MLT): $23.86/hour
- Health & Welfare: $5.09/hour (if benefits not provided)
Qualifications
Medical Technologist (MT) RequirementsCertification (One Required)
Must meet one of the following VHA-recognized certifications:
- Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) – ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) or AMT
- Medical Technologist (MT) – ASCP Board of Registry (BOR) or AMT
- Categorical or Specialist certification – ASCP or AMT
Failure to maintain certification will result in immediate removal from duties.
Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) Requirements Certification (Required)Must possess certification from:
- ASCP (Board of Certification or Board of Registry)
- American Medical Technologists (AMT)
- American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB)
Failure to maintain certification will result in immediate removal.
Experience Requirement (Both MT & MLT)- Minimum 24 months (2 years) of clinical laboratory experience
All MT/MLT personnel must:
- Be credentialed prior to providing services
- Be approved by Facility Medical Executive Board and Medical Center Director
- Comply with VHA Directive &
- Follow all VAMC bylaws, policies, and procedures
Scope of Work / Duties
Personnel shall perform laboratory services equivalent to those provided in a state-of-the-art civilian medical treatment facility.
Core Responsibilities- Perform laboratory testing in hematology, chemistry, microbiology, and related disciplines
- Ensure specimen integrity and accurate processing
- Maintain compliance with CAP standards
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment
- Document results in accordance with VA policies
- Participate in quality control and quality assurance programs
- Follow infection control and patient safety protocols
- Support EHRM implementation transition efforts
