Under general supervision, the Nurse Assistant assists nursing staff in providing medical/administrative services as assigned. Position also assists in medical records management to include charting, filing, and medical records retention.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES MEDICAL- Takes and records vital signs.
- Prepares residents for various medical procedures.
- Contacts physicians, medical institutions, and specific individuals to obtain information necessary to insure adequate health care for residents as assigned.
- Schedules medical appointments.
- Teaches health and hygiene program to residents.
- Insures the confidentiality of all medical records according to HIPAA regulations.
- Performs routine maintenance of clinical equipment.
- Assists in daily resident med call and observe residents taking their prescribed medications.
- Coordinates HIV testing for residents.
- Organizes Prevents Blindness Program (Scheduling, getting appointments, following through with paperwork).
- Updates medical files.
- Assists in conducting monthly inventory of medical supply cabinet in each section.
- Orders approved over the counter medication and supplies as required.
- Assists in the preparation of files for audit purposes.
- Assists in the preparation of medical reports as required.
- Performs medical billing as needed.
- Potential exists for exposure to disease/illness.
- This is a minimum security facility therefore all outside access doors are locked at all times.
- Ability to lift light to heavy objects.
- Ability to stand and walk for a large percentage of the work day.
- Ability to see and hear in order to carry out duties and responsibilities effectively.
