DME Coordinators are responsible for the patient fitting and education of all durable medical equipment as prescribed by the physician; both in the clinic and in the surgery center. They coordinate and advise on all aspects of the DME program, including insurance and billing, and act as a liaison between the DME department and physician teams. They also provide supportive roles in clinic with daily duties.
PositionResponsibilities
- Fit patients with prescribed orthosis. This includes patient evaluation, modification and fitting, training the patient on fit and function, and answering any questions.
- Accurately input patient information into EHR and ensure correct durable medical equipment is dispensed within the Breg Vision system.
- Coordinate with the pre‑certification department to obtain all necessary authorizations as required by Medicare, Medicaid, Worker’s Compensation, or private insurance in order to fit and bill for each orthosis.
- Assist the Director of DME with daily office operations, including maintaining the Special Order Binder, patient messages, and stocking and organizing product in the office.
- Review and monitor inventory levels for durable medical equipment items unique to the office at least two–three times weekly and provide order quantities needed to the DME office lead. Assist with inventory counts as instructed by the Director of DME.
- Act as the liaison between the DME office and physicians on all matters involving communications, paperwork, and necessary patient information.
- Attend all staff meetings and training.
- Perform any and all other duties required for the DME department to be successful with both the practice and patients.
- Provide support to clinic staff by helping with the overall flow of clinic (e.g., cleaning exam rooms, rooming patients, injections, etc.).
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to interface and work well with patients and co‑workers with varying personalities and temperaments.
- Positive customer service skills.
- Basic anatomy knowledge preferred.
- Ability to multi‑task.
- Ability to frequently hear and communicate orally, see at close and long distances, read and comprehend, stand, sit, walk, reach, handle, and/or feel objects.
- Must be able to climb, pull, push, squat, and/or kneel.
- Can demonstrate exercises properly without limitations.
- Maximum unassisted lift: 50 lbs.
- Average lift: 25–50 lbs.
