Overview
Assignment Ready Counselor (ARC) provides short-term, surge and on-demand behavioral health counseling for military service members and their families. Must hold an independent license in any state (e.g., LCSW, LPC, LMFT). The Summer ARC counselor position covers assignments from May 15 through September 15, aligning with the school summer break.
Responsibilities- Provide non-medical, short-term, solution-focused counseling to adults, children, and youth at military installations.
- Deliver services including assessment, brief counseling and consultation, action planning, referrals with linkage, and follow-up as indicated.
- Offer training and health and wellness presentations; conduct parent consultations; coordinate with child daycare centers, schools, DoDEA and community schools; consult with installation command on behavioral health issues.
- Support CYB and adult positions; may be assigned to DoDEA and community schools; work with youth programs, summer camps, MFLC services, and on-demand or surge assignments.
- Enter counselor activity data daily via smartphone or web application and maintain confidentiality of service/family information.
- Collaborate with installation POC and Regional Supervisors; participate in supervision and reporting; respond to critical incidents as directed.
- Ensure compliance with DoD protocols; manage duty to warn and restricted reporting as applicable.
- Master’s degree from an accredited graduate program in a mental health-related field or social work.
- Current independent licensure (e.g., LPC, LCSW, LMFT) per state or customer requirements.
- Ability to accept assignments with short notice; flexible to weekends and varying durations (e.g., weekends to two weeks).
- Excellent rapport-building, adaptability, and ability to work with minimal instruction.
- Ability to engage military members, spouses, or children and respond to emergent situations; able to travel within a military installation or school settings.
- Advanced knowledge of brief therapy and solution-focused counseling.
- Prior military service or familiarity with military culture preferred.
- CYB positions require meeting Magellan MFLC CYB criteria for experience with children and youth and specialty in child/adolescent development/psychology.
- Ability to obtain site immunizations as required and proof of citizenship; fluent in English.
- Service Contract Act (SCA) position; pay rate per wage determination; equal opportunity employer statements.
