Description:
Compile health information by reviewing, cataloging, and checking medical reports for completeness.
Organize medical reports for placement in files.
Review charts to ensure all reports and signatures are present.
Type health information forms and prepare charts for new admissions.
Fill out forms and prepare requests for specific reports or certificates.
Compile and type statistical reports such as daily and monthly census, admissions, discharges, or length of stay.
File reports into health information records and record information in logs.
Retrieve health information records using a filing system.
Provide information from health information records after determining the appropriateness of requests.
Coordinate with other departments concerning health information records procedures.
Knowledge of health information technology and regulations governing medical record keeping is essential.
Understanding of confidentiality requirements for patient information is required.
Familiarity with medical terminology is beneficial.
Skill in the use of word processors and calculators is necessary.
Ability to solve problems involving few variables within a familiar context is required.
Ability to write routine business letters, evaluations, or records following standard procedures is expected.
Capable of proofreading medical reports and recognizing errors is important.
Recognizing when medical records information is missing is necessary.
Ability to gather, collate, and classify information about data, people, or things is essential.
