Position: Performance & Development Specialist

The Dayton Metro Library is recruiting a full-time Performance & Development Specialist to support the Staff Development Manager in delivering and coordinating staff training, onboarding new employees, maintaining staff development records and ensuring compliance with training requirements. This position also assists in the coordination of large-scale staff development initiatives and events. They may also work with consultants and handle confidential personnel information.

The position will be based on-site at the Library’s Operations Center in downtown Dayton, Ohio (one block south of the Main Library). Previous public library experience is strongly preferred. Apply today!

  • Coordinates and delivers onboarding for new employees, including orientation sessions.
  • Delivers and develops existing training programs and provides technical training/coaching for new software rollouts and HRIS platform.
  • Processes training request forms including registering staff members and submitting purchase requisitions for payment. Make travel arrangements for those attending conferences and other events. Track individual department budgets.
  • Handles confidential staff development records and assists in the coordination of the performance evaluation process.
  • Makes necessary preparations of the training location, training aids, and training materials.
  • Assists with planning and coordinating large-scale development events (e.g., In-service training, leadership training, wellness initiatives).
  • Assists with the maintenance of Human Resources’ personnel records and files.
  • Assists with special Human Resources and staff development projects as assigned.
Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university and one year of relevant experience preferred; or two to four years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Valid Ohio driver’s license, acceptable motor vehicle record, and continuous insurability required. Ability to periodically drive.
  • Knowledge of professional training principles, methods, techniques and procedures.
  • Previous library experience is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, and policy and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and training handouts.
  • Ability to effectively present information in a group and/or individual training environment.
  • Ability to communicate by conveying necessary information accurately, listening effectively, and asking questions when clarification is needed. Excellent verbal, written, human relation and public speaking skills.
Compensation and Benefits

Starting hourly rate for this position is $24.95. Benefits include health, dental and vision insurance along with paid time off and OPERS retirement.
