POSITION DESCRIPTION

Tangram Flex is seeking a Data Engineer with 5 years of experience to join our growing team supporting Department of Defense (DoD) programs in the Dayton, Ohio area. The ideal candidate will blend software engineering and analytical expertise to design, build, and maintain data pipelines and analytics solutions that enhance mission-critical insights and operational effectiveness.

As a Data Engineer, you will play a crucial role in supporting the design, development, implementation and sustainment of complex systems. Working with teams onsite at WPAFB, office and remotely in the Dayton area.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable ETL pipelines to extract, transform, and load data from diverse sources.
  • Build and optimize Postgre

    SQL relational database structures and ensure data integrity across systems.
  • Develop and maintain data integration scripts and automation workflows using Python and SQL Alchemy.
  • Implement pipeline automation and version control workflows using Git Lab CI/CD.
  • Collaborate with analysts, data scientists, and stakeholders to define data requirements and ensure timely, accurate delivery.
  • Conduct performance tuning, data modeling, and query optimization to support analytics and visualization needs.
  • Maintain compliance with DoD data security policies and handle classified data in accordance with clearance requirements.
DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Possess a current/or recent (within the last 12 months) U.S. Government Security Clearance/Department of Defense Clearance.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in data engineering, analytics, or software development.
  • Strong proficiency in Python, including libraries such as SQL Alchemy and Pandas.
  • Experience working with ETL processes, Postgre

    SQL, and relational database design.
  • Familiarity with Git Lab for version control, CI/CD, and pipeline automation.
  • Proven ability to work with cross-functional teams in a mission-driven environment.
  • Ability to interface with customers from both a technical and programmatic context.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Hybrid/On-site - Minimum 2 Days in person at WPAFB
    -Every Monday
Preferred
  • Experience supporting DoD or federal government data initiatives.
  • Knowledge of data warehousing and data modeling techniques.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based environments (e.g., AWS Gov Cloud, Azure Government).
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to travel by air, car, or other transportation methods.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer (up to 8 hours/day).
  • Ability to lift and carry lightweight items (e.g., laptops, demo equipment, marketing materials) up to 25 lbs.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, using a mouse, writing, and handling equipment.
  • Visual acuity to read detailed technical documents, view computer screens, and operate software systems.
  • Auditory ability to participate in meetings, customer demos, and conference calls, including in potentially noisy environments (e.g., trade shows or military facilities).
  • Mobility to move between office spaces, customer sites, conference venues, and manufacturing or lab environments.
  • Flexibility to adapt to varying work environments (e.g., corporate offices, government buildings, industrial or lab spaces)
