OverviewThe System Interpreter Services Coordinator oversees the organization’s interpreter services program to ensure that the needs of limited English proficiency (LEP) and deaf patients are met in accordance with organizational and hospital policies, federal law, and regulatory guidelines. The Coordinator manages all processes—scheduling, quality assurance, and vendor coordination—for providing foreign‑language and deaf interpreter services at Atrium Medical Center, Miami Valley Hospital, Miami Valley Hospital North, Miami Valley Hospital South, Upper Valley Medical Center, and all off‑sites.
In addition, the Coordinator develops and implements staff education on interpreter services, monitors usage and quality, identifies improvement opportunities, and prepares effectiveness reports. When required, the coordinator may serve as an interpreter or translator to address billing questions, schedule appointments, assist with ED triage, or provide patient education materials.
- Oversee interpreter services program, including scheduling, quality assurance, and vendor relations.
- Develop and implement staff training on cultural aspects of patient care, policies, and regulations related to LEP and deaf patients.
- Monitor interpreter service usage and quality, identify opportunities for improvement, and prepare program effectiveness reports.
- Serve as an interpreter or translator for billing inquiries, appointment scheduling, emergency department triage, and patient education as needed.
- Fluent in English and Spanish with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to interact with people from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and background groups.
- Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrating compassion, fairness, and inclusivity toward a wide variety of individuals and groups.
- Capacity to engage patients and families under stressful and/or emergency circumstances.
- Proficiency in efficient, cost‑effective scheduling, budget, and resource management.
- Computer skills including keyboarding, Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel), and data management; prior EMR experience is a plus.
- Flexibility, problem‑solving, and decision‑making in a rapidly changing environment.
- Attention to detail, critical thinking, and planning abilities.

Associate degree

Bachelor’s degree. - Area of study or major:
Healthcare administration, communications, business, or related field. - Preferred educational qualifications:
Interpreting experience. - Position‑specific testing requirements:
Spanish Assessment.
- Medical Spanish interpreter certification or experience in the field.
Minimum Level of Experience
Required:
1 — 3 years of job‑related experience.
Prior job title or occupational experience: Spanish interpreter.
