Responsibilities
- Answer to the Director, Division Chief or any Senior Attorney, depending on the assignment, and provide a variety of legal services which may be civil, traffic, administrative, or criminal law related.
- Assist the Director of Law in providing legal counsel and representation to the City and its various departments, agencies, boards, officials, and employees.
- Provide legal research, as well as render oral and written legal opinions.
- Represent at administrative tribunals, municipal and state common pleas and appeal courts, both jury and non‑jury matters.
- Handle plea negotiations and settlements of civil cases, controversies, and claims.
- Draft memorandum, pleadings, briefs, contracts, ordinances, resolutions, legislation proposals, leases, deeds, purchase agreements, and administrative regulations and policies on behalf of the City.
- Stay informed of municipal, criminal, and related fields of law and fulfill all CLE requirements.
- L.L.B. or J.D. from an accredited law school in good standing with the Ohio Bar Association AND 3 years of experience as a practicing attorney.
- Master’s degree in Business Administration or Public Administration may substitute for one year of the above required experience.
- Degree must be from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education through the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning Commission or equivalent region.
Must possess a valid driver’s license at the time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.
Special RequirementsMust be licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.
