Bieser, Greer & Landis, a mid-sized downtown Dayton law firm which dates back to its founding in 1854, is seeking a highly capable paralegal to support a large, active caseload. This position is primarily focused on medical malpractice defense, with opportunities to assist other attorneys and practice areas as needed. The ideal candidate is litigation-ready, detail-driven, and comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment.

Primary Focus

  • Medical Malpractice Defense (core responsibility)
  • Overflow and cross-practice support as firm needs require

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft and manage pleadings, discovery, motions, subpoenas, and correspondence
  • Identify, vet, retain, and coordinate with medical professionals to serve as expert witnesses
  • Request, organize, and review medical records and related healthcare documentation
  • Review, analyze, and organize high-volume medical records and document productions
  • Assist with trial, hearing, deposition, and mediation preparation
  • Conduct legal and factual research and summarize findings for attorneys
  • Track deadlines, statutes of limitation, and court dates
  • Manage electronic and physical case files
  • Coordinate with clients, courts, opposing counsel, experts, and third parties
  • Support multiple attorneys across practice areas when needed

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in medical malpractice defense or a closely related litigation field
  • Strong understanding of court procedures, discovery rules, and medical & legal terminology
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional organization, attention to detail, and time-management skills
  • Comfortable handling large volumes of documents and complex case materials
  • Tech-savvy; experienced with e-filing systems, document management, and legal software
