Job SummaryThe Maintenance Assistant is responsible for assisting with and performing general maintenance functions on buildings, grounds, equipment, and vehicles to ensure a safe and well-maintained environment. This role supports daily maintenance operations, conducts routine inspections, assists with system upkeep, and ensures compliance with safety and regulatory requirements. The Maintenance Assistant works closely with staff, individuals served, and vendors to ensure maintenance needs are met efficiently and professionally.
Responsibilities- Perform and assist with the installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and operating systems.
- Conduct general maintenance and repairs on buildings, appliances, furniture, fixtures, and medical equipment.
- Maintain facility grounds, including landscaping, snow removal, and other outdoor tasks.
- Support daily maintenance operations, including cleaning and organizing the workshop, maintaining inventory, and picking up supplies.
- Conduct fleet and vehicle inspections and perform minor repairs and maintenance.
- Assist with compliance, safety procedures, emergency drills, and regulatory documentation.
- Perform routine inspections and document required maintenance checks as scheduled.
- Respond to repair requests and assist with facility events, special projects, and departmental needs.
- Perform other duties assigned, including committee participation and assistance during emergencies or staff shortages.
- High School Diploma or GED required; advanced certification in building trades preferred.
- Maintenance experience required; experience in a healthcare or IDD setting preferred.
- Mechanical and building skills in areas such as electrical, plumbing, and HVAC.
- Ability to drive assigned vehicles, including vans and coaches, with an insurable driving record.
- CPR and First Aid certification required within 30 days of hire.
- Ability to work professionally with individuals with IDD and uphold Christian values.
- Knowledge of HIPAA, OSHA, infection control, safety guidelines, and patient rights preferred.
- Work performed in indoor and outdoor environments, including residential settings, offices, and community locations.
- Primarily weekday schedule, with possible evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call duties based on operational needs.
- Requires bending, standing, lifting, and use of maintenance tools and equipment.
- May involve exposure to weather conditions, cleaning agents, and maintenance-related hazards.
- Occasional travel offsite; may assist with the transportation of individuals.
