** SUMMARY
* * Sets up and operates one or more Computer Numerical Control electrical discharge machines to shape metal work pieces to specifications, following charts and manuals, applying knowledge of: electrical discharge machining process, ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece properties, methods, theories.
** EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
** 2-4 years of trade school, vocational education, work experience, or apprenticeship.
** LANGUAGE SKILLS
** Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
** REASONING ABILITY
** Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
** ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
** include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.
* Reads and interprets blueprints, burn sheets, sketches, and related technical data to determine locations and power settings.
* Mounts, aligns, and secures tooling, attachments, and work piece on the machine.
* Selects and installs the proper holder to the ram of the machine.
* Loads control media in machine controller or retrieves the machine manufacturer’s stored programs.
* Calculates and sets machine controls to position the electrode in relationship to workpiece and to regulate factors such as spark gap, burn depth, machining efficiency, and flush volume and pressure.
* Plans and drills flush locations to achieve maximum machining efficiency and to ensure flush holes do not overlap one electrode to another.
* Starts machine and monitors displays and machine operation to detect malfunctions.
* Enters commands or manually adjusts machine controls to correct malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining.
* Stops machine to change electrodes and setup according to required machining sequence or to measure workpiece for conformance to blueprint specifications, using precision measuring instruments.
* Operates machines manually to perform non-automated functions.
* Discuss control media errors with supervisor or programming personnel to resolve problems.
* Communicates with coworkers and supervisor to receive instructions.
* Keeps work area and machine clean and organized.
* May perform manual maintenance.
* Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of algebra and trigonometry.
* Operates forklift (requires license).## Qualifications

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus, to read gauges and precision instruments.
