GENERAL NATURE OF WORK:
Under the supervision of the Communications Director, the Communications Intern will work 15 to 20 hours a week through the summer in a communications support role. Depending on skillset, this individual will assist with communications tasks including, but not limited to:
Writing and editing; photo and video production and editing; web and social media analytics; social media content; graphic design; media relations; digital asset management; etc.

JOB LOCATION:
The City of Beavercreek is searching for a communications intern to provide hands-on support to the city's communications division. The intern will help promote city services, programs, and events through the creation of content for the city's social media pages, website, and email marketing. The ideal candidate is a creative, self-starter devoted to delivering quality communications in collaboration with the city's Communications Manager.
The primary worksite is at Beavercreek City Hall. The communications intern will need a cell phone to take and edit videos/pictures, and a vehicle to travel to properties within city limits.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

- Contribute ideas/pitches to City Communications
- Assist in content creation for social media, website, email marketing.
- Assist with the development and implementation of internal/external communications, engagement, and outreach.
- Conduct social media research, digital media development, and media tracking.
- Develop creative concepts and communication plans for special projects.
- Create strategic content and accurate and timely key messaging for all platforms.
- Write news releases, website copy, and social media content.
- Create public awareness campaigns for city services and initiatives.
- Strong social media skills, including filming and editing videos.
- Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office.
- Proficiency in graphic design, Abode Creative Suite preferred.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Strong writing skills; proven experience in use of AP style preferred.
- Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain attention to detail and ability to work effectively under pressure and within deadlines.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with multiple priorities.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city officials, fellow employees, other city employees, and the general public.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written instructions.
- Ability to work under the direction of Communications Manager.
EXPERIENCE:
Must be enrolled at an accredited college or university working towards a baccalaureate or graduate degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or other related field during their employment with the City of Beavercreek.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must maintain a valid Ohio Driver's license.
- Ability to work other than normal working hours, and to work various shifts as necessary.
