Job DetailsThe APP serves as an expert clinician who utilizes the Synergy Professional Practice Model, specialized knowledge, skill, research and competency acquired through advanced professional training to promote optimum care of patients and families within the neonatal/pediatric population. The APP acts as a consultant to the patient/family, nursing staff, other employees and physicians and the community in the area of neonatal/pediatric health.
The APP inter-relates with all departments in the hospital as a voice for advanced practice where clinical expertise is required. The APP collaborates with nursing leaders in developing annual goals as they relate to the hospital mission statement.
The APP for Orthopedics practices under the general supervision of the Orthopedic Surgeons. The APP serves as an expert clinical nurse who utilizes specialized knowledge and skill obtained from advanced formal education and clinical expertise to promote optimum care of patients and families with chronic and critical care issues.
- Assess health status of the pediatric client (0-21 years) through interview, health history, physical examinations, and diagnostic tests.
- In collaboration with the physician, evaluate test findings, make initial medical diagnosis, provide patient/family education, and initiate appropriate action to facilitate the implementation of the therapeutic plan consistent with the continuing health care needs of the patient.
- Participate in provision of health care services for Orthopedic inpatients and outpatients including patient admission to the Orthopedic service, patient rounds, generation of progress notes and patient orders, and patient discharge.
- Engage in staff development, research, and consultation.
- Act as a consultant to the patient/family, nursing staff, institution, and community in the area of pediatric orthopedic needs.
- Interrelate with all departments in the hospital as a voice for advanced practice clinicians where clinical expertise is required.
- Collaborate with the Orthopedic Surgeons in conjunction with state requirements per the APP license.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Master’s Degree – Nurse Practitioner Program or Physician’s Assistant
- 5 years Pediatric Experience (Preferred but not Required)
- RN license in State of Ohio OR Physician Assistant
- Must apply for and be granted privileges by the CEO as a condition of continued employment at Dayton Children's Hospital
- For Nurse Practitioner candidates participating in operative/surgical care, RNFA (Registered Nurse First Assistant) certification is required within 18 months of hire (Employer-sponsored support for obtaining RNFA may be provided in accordance with organizational policy).
