Responsibilities
- Administers medication (e.g., oral, intramuscular, intravenous) and monitors patient medication compliance
- Performs treatments and assists with nurse and doctor’s sick call
- Manages chronic care clinics and participates in nursing management
- Responds to emergencies, providing emergency care and cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- Performs subjective and objective assessment of patients, collects vital signs, and documents findings
- Collects urine and/or other bodily fluid specimens
- Prepares patients for release or transfer to other facilities by reviewing care and transfer summaries
- Ensures discharge medication orders are completed and forwarded to pharmacy services
- Participates in work‑related training and institutional training exercises
- Provides assistance to other healthcare staff and investigates/document problem areas
- Reviews shift reports from preceding shifts
- Assists physicians with medical procedures
- Assumes duties of other nurses during absences
- Counsels patients regarding healthcare maintenance and disease prevention
- Participates in quality assurance activities
- Provides training and work direction to new nurses, agency nurses, licensed practical nurses, and hospital aides
- Serves as resource person for healthcare and security staff
- Provides orientation and training for new healthcare personnel under Nursing Supervisor
- Serves as lead clinical authority on site in the absence of HCA, QIC, medical director and/or advanced provider staff
- Participates in group programming and health & wellness initiatives
- Performs administrative duties as indicated
- Attends meetings
- Schedules multidisciplinary team meetings
- Assumes duties of shift charge as assigned by HCA, making shift work assignments and adjustments
- Performs or assists with inventory and ordering of medical supplies
- Assists ancillary staff as needed to ensure patient care needs are met
- Current licensure as a registered professional nurse in the state of Ohio, issued by the Ohio Board of Nursing
- Ability to perform nursing duties in a correctional environment
- Experience in urgent and emergency care, basic medical procedures, and medical charting
- Strong problem solving, critical thinking, decision making, teamwork, and cultural awareness skills
- Knowledge of the Nurse Licensure Compact permitting practice in multiple states
Starting pay approximately $81,000 based on location and shift assignments.
