American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring cardiac experience, Epic proficiency, and the ability to manage telemetry and cardiac drips.
Details- Hospital-based PCU (Progressive Care Unit/Stepdown) setting
- Cardiac-focused patient population including post-cardiac cath, post-MI, and cardiac procedure recovery patients
- Targeted patient ratio of 1:4, with potential for up to 1:5-6
- Manages cardiac and vasoactive drips including Cardizem, Cardene, dobutamine, dopamine, heparin, nitroglycerin, and insulin drips
- Performs and interprets telemetry strips and manages dysrhythmias
- Experience drawing ABGs required; arterial line and PICC line management performed on unit
- Unit operates under a team nursing model where RNs, LPNs, and PCTs collaborate to care for patient groups, with nurses potentially functioning in either team or primary nursing based on unit needs
- Day shift, 4x12-hour shifts (7:00–19:30); 36- or 48-hour weekly contracts accepted
- Charting via Epic (required)
- Travelers are first to float at the facility's discretion, within medically appropriate specialty clusters, including to a high-risk respiratory unit; floating may occur between main campus and nearby campuses
- Active OH RN license or compact RN license required; candidates with any past license disciplinary action will not be considered
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS preferred
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- PCU or Stepdown (SD) experience required; ICU experience does not substitute for PCU/SD experience at this facility
- Documented 1:5 ratio experience in a PCU or SD setting must be reflected in work history
- Cardiac experience required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Must be able to read and interpret cardiac rhythm strips
- Experience drawing ABGs required
- Must pass an online EKG/telemetry competency assessment prior to starting
- Trauma Level I experience preferred
- Travel experience preferred
- Candidates must be comfortable floating with no restrictions or special requests
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
- Responsibilities include telemetry monitoring, cardiac drip management and titration, post-cardiac cath and post-procedure care, sheath removal, dysrhythmia management, and use of Rapid Response/Code teams
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Nurses will be fitted for an N95 respirator prior to working on the high-risk respiratory unit (HRRU), unless a PAPR is offered or required
- Every other weekend and holiday availability required
- Up to 14 days of RTO allowed per contract; RTO must be submitted with initial application and will not be added after an offer is made
- Any candidate who was previously a permanent or PRN employee of Premier Health Partners, or a prior agency traveler not extended due to tenure, must wait 6 months before applying; facility rehire approval is required prior to any offer being made
