This position requires a strong foundation in managing patients in a Step Down or Progressive Care Unit. Candidates must demonstrate a patient-to-nurse ratio experience of 1:5 in previous work history. Experience working with respiratory conditions, including COPD, CHF, pneumonia, and post-COVID care is essential. The unit is currently trialing a team nursing model to improve patient care and workload management. The average patient ratios are targeted at 1:4, but may rise to 1:5-6 based on census and acuity.
Candidates will be required to read and interpret cardiac strips. Nurses must be fitted for appropriate personal protective equipment before starting on the unit. This role involves caring for patients requiring telemetry, drips, and ventilator support. The candidate should be comfortable with advanced patient care including managing trach, vents, and high-oxygen requirements. The ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team is vital for success in this role.
Travelers may be required to float to support other units as necessary. Availability to work every other weekend and holiday is expected. All applications will be reviewed for compliance with experience requirements.
