Pediatric Operating Room Registered Nurse
As a Registered Nurse in the Pediatric Operating Room at our healthcare team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of surgical patients. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality preoperative care, manage surgical instruments and equipment, and maintain a sterile environment. Your expertise and attention to detail will be essential in facilitating successful surgical procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Preoperative Assessment:
Conduct thorough preoperative assessments to ensure patients are prepared for surgery, addressing any concerns or medical history issues. - Surgical Assistance:
Assist surgeons during surgical procedures, including passing instruments, maintaining a sterile field, and providing necessary equipment and supplies. - Patient Advocacy:
Advocate for patient safety and comfort throughout the surgical experience, addressing any concerns or changes in the patient's condition promptly. - Sterile Technique:
Maintain a sterile environment in the operating room, including proper sterilization of instruments and adherence to infection control protocols. - Patient
Education:
Provide patients and their families with preoperative and postoperative education to ensure understanding and compliance with care plans. - Documentation:
Accurately document all patient care activities, assessments, and interventions in accordance with facility policies and regulatory standards. - Team
Collaboration:
Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the smooth flow of surgical procedures. - Emergency Response:
Be prepared to respond to emergency situations during surgery, including code situations, while maintaining composure and following established protocols. - Equipment Maintenance:
Ensure proper functioning and availability of surgical equipment and instruments, reporting any malfunctions or deficiencies promptly.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in state of practice
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- Certification in perioperative nursing (CNOR) preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in an acute care pediatric operating room setting within last 5 years.
- Strong understanding of surgical procedures and aseptic techniques
- American Heart Association BLS required as well as PALS and ACLS certifications required
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
