Job Description
AV has an opportunity available for a Research Scientist to join our ceramics and composites team at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). The position focuses on basic and applied research projects involving characterization and processing of ceramics and ceramic composites. Primary research responsibilities will be to support the production of new ceramic powders, sinter samples, and layup composites. The position requires working closely with government and contract researchers within the research team and with other research teams.
We are particularly interested in a highly motivated, adaptable, and capable individual with a MS or Ph.D. in Materials Science, Polymer Chemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.

- MS or Ph.D. in Materials Science & Engineering, Polymer Chemistry, Chemistry, Ceramic Engineering or a related field
- Experience with materials processing and characterization
- Ability to learn and develop new approaches and techniques
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- This position will require a self-motivated individual with good interpersonal skills and careful attention to details
- Adaptable to varying program objectives
- Experience with ceramic and/or composite processing and characterization
- Powder processing, sintering, and characterization.
- Experience with SEMs, TEMs, sample polishing, TGA, XRD, rheometry and/or dilatometry.
This position requires access to information that is subject to compliance with the International Traffic Arms Regulations (“ITAR”) and/or the Export Administration Regulations (“EAR”). In order to comply with the requirements of the ITAR and/or the EAR, applicants will be asked to provide specific documentation to verify U.S. person status under the ITAR and the EAR.
