Overview
The Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) is offering a postdoctoral fellowship at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. The fellowship is administered through Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) and focuses on researching industrial processes and environmental safety practices across a wide range of industry classifications.
ResponsibilitiesUnder the guidance of a mentor, the fellow will gain hands‑on experience and contribute through the following activities:
- Researching information about various industries to estimate risk levels and develop risk mitigation techniques.
- Learning research techniques related to the audit of industrial sites.
- Applying engineering management principles to develop effective tools for auditing industrial performance and ESOH risk.
- Gaining experience in identifying human and environmental health risks during tours at industrial facilities.

Start DateExact start dates will be determined at the time of selection in coordination with the selected candidate. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis.
Appointment LengthThis appointment is a four‑month research appointment, with the possibility of renewal for additional periods depending on funding, project assignment, program rules, and participant availability.
Provisions- Stipend (amount based on academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location).

Candidate must have earned a Doctoral degree in any of the disciplines listed above within five (5) years of the appointment start date.
