Research Internship in Statistical Decay Analysis Air Force Institute of Technology

The Air Force Institute of Technology is offering a post-Master's fellowship at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.

As an ORISE participant, you will engage in an innovative research experience focused on the application of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to advanced manufacturing and supply chain risk assessment. The research will explore the development and adaptation of machine learning and large language models to identify patterns, detect anomalies, and evaluate emerging risks associated with surge manufacturing and supply chain integrity.

You will investigate the integration of mathematical approaches, including graph-based models, with predictive algorithms and explore methods for developing reliable, data-driven AI frameworks. This opportunity will provide exposure to the research and evaluation of end-to-end AI methodologies while advancing your understanding of how emerging AI technologies can be applied to complex manufacturing and supply chain challenges.

Under the guidance of a mentor, you will gain hands‑on research experience at the intersection of artificial intelligence, machine learning, predictive modeling, and advanced manufacturing. This opportunity is designed to complement your academic background while expanding your technical knowledge and preparing you to address complex, real-world research challenges. Throughout the appointment, you will have opportunities to:

• Expand your knowledge and practical experience with machine learning methodologies by exploring predictive and classification models used to identify patterns, anomalies, and potential risks within complex datasets.
• Develop a deeper understanding of end‑to‑end AI research methodologies by examining how data preparation, model development, evaluation, validation, and interpretation can be integrated into comprehensive AI frameworks.

Exact start dates will be determined at the time of selection and in coordination with the selected candidate. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis and fellowships will be filled as qualified candidates are identified.

This appointment is a twelve‑month research appointment, with the possibility to be renewed for additional research periods. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant.

You will receive a stipend to be determined by AFIT. Stipends are typically based on a participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location. Other provisions may include the following:

• Training and Travel Allowance
