KEP Electric, a subsidiary of IES Residential, is currently seeking experienced Licensed HVAC Technicians in Dayton, Ohio, as well as the surrounding communities of Troy and Lima, for an upcoming project in Defiance, Ohio.

Position Summary

The Licensed HVAC Technician is responsible for the installation, startup, testing, and troubleshooting of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in residential construction projects. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, dependable, and experienced in all phases of residential HVAC installation while maintaining compliance with company standards, manufacturer specifications, and applicable building codes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install residential HVAC systems, including furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, air handlers, ductwork, ventilation systems, and related equipment.
  • Perform rough‑in, trim‑out, startup, and final HVAC installations according to project schedules.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, HVAC layouts, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Install and test refrigerant lines, condensate drains, ventilation systems, and ductwork.
  • Conduct equipment startup, system balancing, and performance testing to ensure proper operation.
  • Troubleshoot installation issues and perform corrective work as needed.
  • Ensure all installations comply with local, state, and federal building codes, manufacturer requirements, and company quality standards.
  • Coordinate work activities with project managers, superintendents, builders, inspectors, and other trades.
  • Maintain company tools, equipment, vehicles, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Follow OSHA safety requirements and company safety policies at all times.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Valid HVAC License or certification as required by state or local jurisdiction.
  • EPA Universal Certification required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of residential HVAC installation experience.
  • Experience in single-family, multifamily, or production residential construction environments.
  • Ability to read blueprints, HVAC drawings, and construction plans.
  • Knowledge of HVAC installation practices, refrigerant handling procedures, and applicable building codes.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
  • Commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and productivity.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
  • Must pass a background check and drug screening.
Preferred Qualifications
  • NATE Certification.
  • Experience working in production homebuilding and multifamily construction environments.
  • Experience leading crews or mentoring apprentices.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
Work Environment
  • Work performed primarily on active single-family and multifamily residential construction sites.
  • Frequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions, dust, noise, and construction-related hazards.
  • Regular use of ladders, scaffolding, lifts, and power tools.
  • Work may be performed in unfinished structures, attics, crawl spaces, elevated work areas, and mechanical rooms.
  • Daily travel to job sites throughout the service area.
  • Occasional overtime and weekend work may be required to meet project schedules.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb throughout the workday.
  • Ability to work from ladders, scaffolding, and elevated work platforms.
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, HVAC testing equipment, and refrigerant recovery equipment.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures and outdoor conditions while maintaining safety standards.
  • Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks while maintaining quality and productivity.
