Job Description
Locate Technicians are responsible for accurately locating underground facilities including, but not limited to, telephone communication lines, electric power lines, cable television lines, gas lines, fiber optic lines, water lines and sewer lines. This position is key to ensuring that the area complies with client and state requirements. Service duties include observing, locating, marking, and documenting underground and exposed utility locations.
A multiple-method approach is required. The locating technician is dispatched to locate and verify facilities for utility customers. Technicians may work independently or in a team, always under the supervision of an assigned supervisor. The role demands focus, skill and the use of machinery and/or tools. Pre‑Employment Requirements:
Candidates must complete a background check with no violations within the last five years. All candidates must also pass a DOT drug test.
All employees are assigned proper technology and work vehicles to perform all work‑related duties.
Equipment and Tools Provided- Company vehicle, laptop and smartphone
- All personal protective equipment provided
- Locate underground facilities by using a transmitter and connecting to a buried facility, pedestal, etc.
- Work and walk over all types of terrain in and around construction zones and residential, commercial, industrial and rural areas in all types of weather conditions.
- Interpret job order tickets, blueprints and maps to efficiently route and perform duties.
- Perform locates and emergency/on‑call locates during regular, overtime and holiday hours as necessary to meet customer needs.
- Carry out all work in a timely, professional and efficient manner while effectively communicating and interacting with customers, co‑employees and third parties.
- Communicate with the management team, contractors and utility customers to ensure a damage‑free environment.
- Maintain knowledge of technology and tools needed.
- Work with others and in a supervised team environment.
- High School Diploma or equivalency (GED)
- State‑issued driver's license
- Problem‑solving ability
- Ability to read, interpret, and decipher multiple types of print
- Vacuum truck experience (A+)
- Ability to lift over 50 lbs
- Ability to walk/stand for multiple hours a day
- Excellent communication skills
- High‑level print reading ability
- Pass a background screening with no violations within the last five years
- Pass a DOT drug test
