Job Summary/Basic Function:

Under general direction; calibrates, maintains, installs, repair and troubleshoots controls and equipment associated with HVAC equipment and control systems. Efficient operation of building systems, reduction in energy consumption and operating costs, and improved life cycle of utilities.

Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent, a certificate from a two-year certified technical/vocational HVAC program, and a minimum of three (3) years of full‑time Commercial/Industrial HVAC experience.; OR a high school diploma or equivalent, and eight (8) years of full‑time Commercial/Industrial HVAC experience. Must possess a good understanding of the occupational hazards and general safety considerations inherent in the trade. Must be able to calculate basic math, including fractions, decimals and percentages.

Must be able to read, write and comprehend common vocabulary. May be required to read, interpret and work from blueprints, sketches, wiring diagrams, plans, layouts and/or templates.
Must currently have possessed a valid U.S. driver’s license for at least one year*.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced knowledge of:

  • DDC (Direct Digital Controls) programming and troubleshooting
  • HVAC systems integration with BAS .

Experience with energy management systems and strategies for improving building efficiency.

Essential Functions and percent of time:

  • Performs electronic and mechanical calibration and repair of HVAC pneumatic and DDC control systems. 10%
  • Performs routine maintenance on building automation system. Operational Testing, Verification, and Acceptance:
    Run routine reports to review system operation. 10%
  • Utilizes HVAC computerized control systems for troubleshooting and repair work of university facilities or property which require specialized training in a skilled trade;
    Building Automation Systems and Retro-commissioning/ HVAC Controls. Makes systems changes as necessary. 10%
  • Proven experience in the integration of low-voltage building subsystems using various industry protocols, such as BACNet, N2, Modbus, etc 10%
  • Analyzes, designs, installs and maintains new or replacement HVAC control equipment and control logic for large complex HVAC Systems. 10%
  • Installs, maintains and operates components and equipment such as mechanical, pneumatic, electronic and electrical controls of environmental heating and cooling systems. Troubleshoots and assesses mechanical problems/deficiencies to determine and complete necessary repairs and/or replacements to maximize system efficiencies. 10%
  • Installs mechanical, pneumatic, and electronic devices designed to control space temperature, and assesses if devices are operating properly. Adjusts thermostats, manual and automatic valves and mechanical linkage to maintain maximum system efficiency. 10%
