Job Summary
Drives the school van to transport students over specified routes according to a time schedule. Drives safely and complies with traffic regulations. This employee reports to the DECA Operations Director.
Responsibilities- Drive a school van safely and professionally.
- Supervise students while transporting them.
- Perform and properly complete daily pre‑trip inspections.
- Comply with all traffic ordinances.
- Comply with discipline policies set forth in the School Code of Conduct.
- Demonstrate patience, neatness, friendliness, kindness, and courteousness.
- Participate in on‑site training.
- Show proficiency in handling and maneuvering school vans.
- Remain free of any alcohol or non‑prescribed controlled substance in the workplace.
- Serve as a role model for students and District employees.
- Other duties may be assigned.
- High school diploma or GED; college degree preferred.
- Must present a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of the District insurance carrier.
- Hold a valid driver’s license and have the ability to drive a school van following all safety regulations.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, teachers, and the administration.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to work in a friendly manner with co‑workers and students.
- Ability to read and understand maps.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and DECA Governing Board policies.
- Must have a satisfactory background check consistent with state and federal laws.
The employee is continuously required to sit and occasionally required to walk or stand. Frequently bends or twists at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. Frequently repeats the same hand, arm, or finger motion many times. Frequently uses hand strength to grasp tools and is continuously driving to fulfill this contracted service. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds, such as students.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and peripheral vision.
Work may involve temperatures about 100 °F and below 32 °F and occasionally walking on slippery surfaces. Must meet deadlines with severe time constraints and interact with public and other workers. Direct responsibility for the safety and well-being of others. Noise level is frequently loud, requiring raising voice to be heard. Possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue; daily operation of a vehicle to transport students.
