The Operator is responsible for operating and monitoring production equipment, ensuring that processes are carried out efficiently, safely, and in compliance with all relevant regulations. The Operator will manage the production of glycolic acid and other chemical products, ensuring adherence to quality standards while maintaining operational efficiency.

Duties and responsibilities

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Operate and monitor chemical production equipment including reactors, pumps, and control systems, ensuring safe and efficient production.
  • Adjust process parameters as necessary to maintain optimal conditions and ensure consistent product quality.
  • Collect and analyze samples and report results to relevant parties.
  • Ensure accurate lot tracking, and document results to maintain traceability and compliance with quality standards.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, industry standards and environmental regulations, including but not limited to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, and hazardous material handling, to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Regularly complete and stay up to date on required safety and operational training.
  • Safely unload raw materials from delivery trucks and containers, ensuring proper handling and storage according to company policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and load finished products into containers for shipment, ensuring all containers are properly sealed, labeled, and meet quality and safety requirements.
  • Support logistics with materials deliveries, ensuring timely flow of materials in and out of the facility.
  • Actively participate in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Pre‑start‑up Safety Reviews (PSSR).
  • Regularly inspect and maintain plant conditions, including equipment and production areas, to ensure cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness.
  • Contribute to maintain and reliability planning and the coordination of scheduled equipment repairs and overhauls to ensure plant reliability.
  • Identify and resolve equipment or process issues to minimize downtime and maintain production flow.
  • Maintain accurate logs of production activities, process data, lot numbers, and equipment performance.
  • Monitor production output and perform quality checks to ensure products meet company specifications and industry standards.
  • Report equipment malfunctions and collaborate with maintenance team to ensure timely repairs and ongoing equipment reliability, including isolating energy sources and clearing process equipment.
  • Maintain workspace and plant cleanliness, organization, and operational readiness ensuring a well‑kept and efficient work environment.
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and uphold the organization’s values in all tasks and interactions.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications

Skills include:

  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in maintaining records for compliance and safety.
  • Skilled in operating chemical production equipment and supporting equipment maintenance.
  • Strong commitment to safety with proactive approach to staying updated on training.
  • Able to troubleshoot and resolve processes and equipment issues quickly and efficiently.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding conditions, including lifting, working in confined spaces, and operating in hazardous environments.
  • Proficiency in SAP S/4

    Hana, DMC, and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Qualifications include:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree in a related field or vocational training preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in chemical manufacturing or a related field.
  • OSHA or other safety certifications are a plus.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, stand for long periods, and work in a physically demanding environment.
Working conditions

This position may require minimal travel. This position requires working evenings and weekends.

Physical requirements

This position may require sitting at a desk/table for extended periods of time.
