Job Summary
This position will be responsible for conducting tests based on ISO 17025 accreditation requirements on furniture products to ensure they meet federal regulatory and industry safety, durability, and performance standards. This role will collaborate with new product development teams and engineering to provide independent test results on product and component testing.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct various tests on furniture products, including mechanical strength, durability, and safety assessments, as required by ANSI/BIFMA, ASTM, ISO, UL, BS, EN, federal and global regulations following established protocols
- Analyze test results and compile findings into detailed reports, providing actionable insights to design and engineering teams
- Ensure testing procedures comply with relevant industry standards (e.g., ANSI/BIFMA, ASTM, ISO, UL, BS, EN) and prepare documentation for regulatory compliance
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including new product development, engineering, supply chain, and quality assurance, to support product development and troubleshoot issues
- Maintain and calibrate testing equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability, troubleshooting any issues as they arise
- Provide some training to lab technicians, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and learning
- Identify opportunities for enhancing testing methodologies and processes, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives
- Maintain accurate records of tests performed, results obtained, and any modifications made to testing procedures
- Create, fabricate and restore testing fixtures to ensure ongoing performance meets ISO 17025 requirements
- Adhere to safety protocols and procedures in the lab to maintain a safe working environment for all team members
This position provides leadership to Test lab Technician I-II, and supports the Test Lab in conducting, analyzing and recording testing, collaborating with lab customers to ensure objectives are met, maintains equipment, sets a standard for reliability, work ethic and consistency in lab operations.
Minimum Requirements- Associate's degree in related field with 2-4 years of experience in a testing or quality assurance role, preferably within the furniture or manufacturing industry, or equivalent
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively
- Experience or training in PLC programming (Ladder Logic)
- Basic knowledge of mechanical principles and material properties
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Proficiency in using standard lab equipment and software for data recording and analysis
- Experience mentoring/teaching others
- Proficient ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues in test equipment
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in data analysis software

Often required to sit, repetitive hand motion (such as typing), hear, listen, talk, stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, squat, balance, reach overhead, crawl, push and lift – up to 50 pounds. Seldom required to climb stairs, climb ladders or lift up to 75 pounds. Not required to shovel.
