Purpose:

Assist teacher in preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under supervision of certified teacher.

Education/Certification

Must meet one of these 3 options when hired:

• At least 2 years of study at an institution of higher education
• Obtained an associate’s degree or higher
• Meet a rigorous standard of quality through formal academic assessment required by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)

Special Knowledge/Skills

• Ability to work well with children
• Ability to communicate effectively

Experience

• Some experience working with children

• Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
• Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
• Help maintain neat and orderly classroom.
• Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
• Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.

• Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups or whole class.
• Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus area, and playground duty.
• When a substitute is unavailable, cover classroom assignments as needed.
• Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.

• Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
• Participate in faculty meeting and special events as assigned.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Attendance is an essential job function.
• Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

Equipment Used: Copier, personal computer, typewriter, and audiovisual equipment.

Mental Demands / Physical Demands / Environmental Factors Maintain emotional control under stress in a high stress and fast paced work environment. Moderate standing, stooping, bending, and lifting.

Salary: $11.75 to $14.10 Per Hour
