Instructional Coach
The Instructional Coach position is designed for the teacher who strives to accomplish positively impacting classroom success. The primary purpose of the Instructional Coach is to improve the learning in Dayton ISD through delivery of the state standards and ensure the district instructional framework is delivered with efficacy. The instructional coach, under the direction of district leadership, will support classroom teachers, specialists, and campus administration to strengthen instruction and increase student learning.
This position will be required to have a strong knowledge of effective teaching and learning practices that address differentiated instruction for the learner both adult and student. This applicant will be an important piece in the leadership team, developing shared understanding and messages around the importance of instruction in student learning.
The Instructional Coach will:
- Observe classrooms daily and provide feedback.
- Oversee the development and implementation of lesson plans incorporating the district's common instructional framework.
- Provide trainings to teachers.
- Serve as an on-site professional developer utilizing an embedded model whereby follow up is immediate and frequent.
- Provide opportunities for teachers to observe good teaching (other teachers, model lessons).
- Identify needs of teachers in instructional delivery and assessment, and plan professional growth opportunities for them.
- Provide teachers with strategies, resources, and ideas.
- Facilitate the sharing of activities, resources and knowledge across grade levels and from teachers to teacher.
- Analyze school data.
- Attend leadership meetings.
- Attend Instructional Coaches meetings as assigned.
- Attend professional development opportunities.
- Collaborate with other Instructional Coaches.
- Support teachers as they implement new instructional strategies, new curriculum, etc.
- Train and support teachers in developing common assessments within teams of teachers including being able to articulate the rationale for common assessments.
- Work with individual teachers to assess students' needs and plan for instruction based on those needs.
- Work with individual teachers to set goals, discuss issues, and make plans.
- Maintain an "open door" policy with teachers.
- Check in regularly with teachers.
- Work collaboratively with all teachers.
- Set a high level of expectations.
- Remain enthusiastic about teaching and student learning.
- Work closely with the district curriculum coordinator to plan, implement, and reflect upon curriculum.
- Work closely with administrators.
- Attendance is an essential job function.
- Other duties as assigned.
