Position: Manufacturing Multi-Craft Maintenance Technician (Night Shift)

Overview

Manufacturing Multi-Craft Maintenance Technician – Dayton, Texas. Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs electrical and mechanical systems, apparatus and components of industrial machinery and equipment.

Insteel Industries, established in 1953, is the nation’s largest manufacturer of steel wire reinforcement products for concrete construction applications. We operate eleven manufacturing facilities in nine states and have our Home Office in Mount Airy, NC. We manufacture prestressed concrete strand and welded wire reinforcement, including engineered structural mesh, concrete pipe reinforcement, and standard welded wire reinforcement for concrete applications.

Position Snapshot

A Multi-Craft Maintenance Technician is expected to know and perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required. To be successful in this role you will:

  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical (up to 480V), electronic and controls systems
  • Conduct equipment inspections for proper operation and mechanical integrity
  • Knowledge of electrical safety guidelines and safety practices such as Lockout/Tagout and Arc Flash
  • Working knowledge of safe use of basic electrical diagnostic equipment (volt/ohm meter, etc.)
  • Proficiency in basic multimeter functions (fuses, conductivity)
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical circuits—relays, contractors, motors, starters, AC/DC drives, PLCs, and machine HMI programs
  • Lubricate and maintain equipment during normal operations and preventive maintenance
  • Repair auxiliary components
  • Change bearings and wear components; replace and adjust belts, pulleys, and drive components
  • Understand thread terminology, tap drill sizes, fastener terminology, drill sizes, bit sizes and types
  • Read blueprints, schematics, installation and arrangement drawings, electrical diagrams and symbols; install wiring to manufacturer specifications
  • Remove and install AC/DC motors
  • Solder electrical and electronic components
  • Identify component type construction and application
  • Valves, Pumps, Filters, Strainers, Cooling Towers, Heat Exchangers, Rotating Equipment, Mobile Equipment
  • Troubleshoot components and diagnose issues such as pump failure, drive failure, loss of rotation, hydraulic failure, loss of cooling, pressurized gas system problems, vibration
  • Create and modify work orders in the MAXIMO CMMS system, including recording logs, entering time and follow-up work
  • Adhere to company safety policies and PPE usage
  • Other mechanical/electrical duties as assigned
Requirements and Education
  • Broad technical training (high school plus 1–2 years of apprenticeship or applied trades training). Must have basic knowledge of shop mathematics, reading complex drawings, specifications, charts, tables, PLC programs, DC/AC drive motors and precision measuring instruments
  • Minimum 3–5 years electrical experience preferred
  • Multi-craft experience in a manufacturing environment preferred (5–7 years)

An equivalent combination of education and work-related experience may be acceptable.
