POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE:
Mechanic
F.L.S.A. Non-Exempt
Starting Date: Immediately
Qualifications- Pass pre-employment physical and drug test
- Acquire valid Texas Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with P & S endorsements
- Acquire valid Texas School Bus Driver Certification
- Be available to work late hours as needed
- Ability to lift heavy equipment and vehicle parts
- Ability to bend, stoop, stand, kneel and squat
- Drive bus routes as needed
- Ability to diagnose, repair and rebuild gasoline or diesel engines
- High school diploma or GED
- Prefer five years of mechanical experience
- Able to replace or repair engines, transmissions and related components on gasoline and diesel powered equipment and vehicles.
- Perform repairs and overhauls on vehicle systems such as fuel, cooling, lubrication, brakes, steering/suspension, drive line, electrical, hydraulic, handicap vehicle equipment, and other job‑related duties assigned.
- Read and understand shop manuals, electrical schematics and other technical data as needed to complete repairs.
- Perform preventive maintenance, inspections and tire repairs.
- Perform gasoline and diesel engine tune‑ups and diagnostics.
- Must provide own hand tools.
- Ability to use all standard equipment found in a motor vehicle repair shop.
- Ability to understand and use all new computer diagnostic equipment and emission standards.
- Be knowledgeable of parts and supplies.
- Must have basic knowledge of computers and software programs used in troubleshooting and repairs of engine control systems and testing of sensors.
- Ability to operate a school bus.
- Must be cooperative and show initiative towards improving skills.
- Ability to understand and execute verbal and written orders.
- Must be self‑motivated in acquiring knowledge and performing Texas schoolbus inspections correctly.
- Must be self‑motivated and able to work independently.
- Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Attendance is an essential job function.
- Other duties as assigned.
Position Type: Full‑Time
Salary: $20 to $24.01 Per Hour
