POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE:
Mechanic

F.L.S.A. Non-Exempt

Starting Date: Immediately

• Pass pre-employment physical and drug test
• Acquire valid Texas Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with P & S endorsements
• Acquire valid Texas School Bus Driver Certification
• Be available to work late hours as needed
• Ability to lift heavy equipment and vehicle parts
• Ability to bend, stoop, stand, kneel and squat
• Drive bus routes as needed
• Ability to diagnose, repair and rebuild gasoline or diesel engines
• High school diploma or GED
• Prefer five years of mechanical experience

• Able to replace or repair engines, transmissions and related components on gasoline and diesel powered equipment and vehicles.
• Perform repairs and overhauls on vehicle systems such as fuel, cooling, lubrication, brakes, steering/suspension, drive line, electrical, hydraulic, handicap vehicle equipment, and other job‑related duties assigned.
• Read and understand shop manuals, electrical schematics and other technical data as needed to complete repairs.
• Perform preventive maintenance, inspections and tire repairs.
• Perform gasoline and diesel engine tune‑ups and diagnostics.
• Must provide own hand tools.
• Ability to use all standard equipment found in a motor vehicle repair shop.
• Ability to understand and use all new computer diagnostic equipment and emission standards.
• Be knowledgeable of parts and supplies.
• Must have basic knowledge of computers and software programs used in troubleshooting and repairs of engine control systems and testing of sensors.
• Ability to operate a school bus.
• Must be cooperative and show initiative towards improving skills.
• Ability to understand and execute verbal and written orders.
• Must be self‑motivated in acquiring knowledge and performing Texas schoolbus inspections correctly.
• Must be self‑motivated and able to work independently.
• Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Attendance is an essential job function.
• Other duties as assigned.

Position Type: Full‑Time

Salary: $20 to $24.01 Per Hour
