This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Tomoka Correctional Institution in the Education Department.
The purpose of the Library Technical Assistant is to manage and oversee law library services, including processing inmate requests, supervising inmate staff, maintaining library resources and records, and ensuring compliance with regulations to support inmate access to legal materials.
This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.
JOB DUTIES:- Processes inmate requests and grievances related to general and law library services, ensuring timely responses and availability of the library for a minimum of 25 hours per week.
- Supervises and assigns research duties to inmate clerks and aides, monitors their activities, evaluates their performance for gain time review, and initiates disciplinary actions as needed.
- Monitors the check-out and return of library materials, interlibrary loan processing, and use of the copy machine, ensuring accuracy of records.
- Performs photocopying, maintains inventory of supplies, and manages library resources in accordance with rules and statutes.
- Collects data, compiles reports for librarian approval, and forwards law library invoices and charge forms.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT
The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
