• Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus EITHER:
  (A) Graduation with an Associate's degree or possession of a certificate, either of which must be in an automotive field; OR,
  (B) Six (6) months paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience as an automotive mechanic; OR,
  (C) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B), above.

• Minimum of five years experience in school bus or heavy truck repairs and maintenance;
• Good knowledge of the principles of heavy equipment mechanics including systems and parts operations, systems and parts interrelationships and systems and parts functions;
• Good knowledge of the methods and practices involved in repairs to heavy equipment;
• Good knowledge of shop equipment, tools, electronic diagnostic equipment, parts and their potential use;
• Working knowledge of the mechanical operation and terminology of school buses;
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervision and District administration.

• Performs heavy equipment and automotive repairs to gasoline, diesel engines, and hydraulic systems;
• Repairs and rebuilds some automotive systems such as cooling, electrical, exhaust, steering and suspension, fuel system, brake, and drive train;
• Repairs preventative maintenance functions including lubrication, fluid checks, minor tune-ups and safety inspections of trucks, buses, and other heavy equipment;
• Operates machine shop equipment such as grinder, drill presses and other working machine to make, rebuild or repair parts for automotive equipment;
• Diagnoses chronic automotive problems caused by maladjustments, worn, damaged, or defective parts;
• May be asked to drive a school bus with children on occasion;
• Other duties as assigned.
