The Volusia County Schools (VCS) Building & Inspection Department serves as the Volusia County Schools’ Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) and is responsible for the efficient and effective building code compliance review and inspection of all construction activities on Volusia County School District property.
Job DescriptionThis is a full-time on-site position, located in Daytona Beach, FL, for a Building Code Inspector. The Building Code Inspector will conduct on-site building inspections to ensure compliance with state and other applicable codes and regulations, including final inspection. Responsibilities will include coordinating construction inspections with the job architect, engineers, contractors, and other professionals as necessary. On designated projects, act as owner’s representative in coordinating with architects, engineers and contractors to observe the work for compliance with plans, specifications and project requirements.
Observe and report the quality control and quality assurance on designated school construction projects. Act as resource to school personnel in use of new facilities. Document activities pertaining to construction standards and codes. Maintain current required licenses. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Building Code Administrator, New Construction and Inspections. Starting Salary $60,094.00 yearly.
- Valid license by Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation as a standard Building, Plumbing, Mechanical, or Electrical Inspector
- Five (5) years' experience as an architect’s representative, building inspector, superintendent of multiple commercial or institutional construction projects
- High School diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent;
Associate degree or higher in a construction related field preferred - Possess a valid Florida Driver’s License
- Working knowledge and understanding of Florida State Requirements for Educational Facilities
- Working knowledge and understanding of the Florida Building Codes and development regulations
- Understanding of building construction materials, procedures, practices, methods and construction documents and standards
- Ability to read and understand construction plans and specifications
- Ability to write clear and concise reports and correspondence
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationship with design professionals, contractors, school administrators, staff members and the general public
- Ability to exercise judgement and decision making in interpreting and applying laws, rules, regulations, and policies
- Skillful in analyzing, evaluating and solving problems
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
