Position: Collaborative Artist (Piano)

Department of Music, College of Arts & Humanities

JOB SUMMARY

This full-time staff appointment is responsible for providing piano accompaniment for various department functions. The primary responsibility will be accompanying the choral ensembles in both rehearsals and performances. This component of the position requires regular weekend travel throughout Florida due to the Concert Chorale's extensive performance schedule. Duties may also include accompanying department performances and performing with students in weekly department recitals.

ESSENTIAL

FUNCTIONS
  • Accompanying daily ensemble rehearsals and community performances
  • Assisting Choral Director in teaching music to ensemble groups and soloists
  • Traveling with the choral ensembles (Typical schedule includes approximately two engagements per month.)
  • Assisting with administration of Choral activities and supervision of students on performance trips
  • Providing vocal coaching to students
  • Accompanying student performances on weekly department recitals (as faculty load allows)
MINIMUM EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's Degree in Piano Performance, Accompanying, or related field;
    Master's degree preferred
  • Record of successful experience in accompanying collegiate-level or professional musicians
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Classical piano technique with ability to transfer that technique to accompany in a variety of styles including musical theater, jazz, and gospel
  • Strong sight-reading skills with ability to learn repertoire quickly
  • Familiarity with standard choral repertoire as well as all genres related to the African American experience
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
