Job SummaryA nine‑month teaching position responsible for providing academic instruction within the School of Performing Arts and Communication. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate students in lower and upper level division courses in multimedia journalism, persuasive communications and video production/editing. Teaching can include courses in digital production, multimedia journalism, advertising and public relations, as well as additional areas of expertise such as digital media, mobile communications, research methods, social media, and other applied elements of mass mediated communications.
Duties/ Responsibilities
- Teach various introductory, intermediate and advanced courses in all areas of Mass Communications (including Photojournalism, Public Affairs Reporting, Announcing, Radio and TV Production, Video Editing, Desktop Publishing, Communication Graphics, Public Relations Practices and other assigned major courses in the Mass Communications Department).
- Help students develop their maximum potential in mastering course content; maintaining thorough and up‑to‑date knowledge in your regular teaching field while upholding the highest standards of professional conduct and ethics within the academic discipline.
- Be familiar with multiple course delivery systems, including blended, online, and distant learning formats.
- Exceptional history of delivering course content within the Canvas course management system.
- Have familiarity and experience with advising students in undergraduate course programmes and in application for graduate programmes and employment opportunities.
- Demonstrable history of positively mentoring students in undergraduate courses.
- Successful track record of developing academic programmes within the mass communication discipline.
- Provide department service, including student organisation assistance, advising and sponsorship.
- Serve as a faculty advisor to campus television, radio, public relations, newspaper and other related student organisations, which may require significant additional time outside of course teaching each week.
- Actively serve on departmental and institutional committee work.
- Attend all university sponsored events where faculty attendance is required, such as graduation and all faculty in‑service and similar events.
- Engage in research, scholarly and/or creative works, with successful academic publication history.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the university, department chairperson, dean or university administration.
- At least two years of successful teaching experience at the college level, including course curriculum development; evidence of scholarly activity in the area of mass communications; evidence of very strong photographic and video graphic skills; and evidence of active involvement in ongoing research, including grants and publications.
- Ability to communicate technical information to non‑technical personnel. Must also demonstrate experience working in a team‑oriented environment.
- Solid knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including Adobe Premiere Pro, Acrobat Pro, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Audition and other software such as Final Cut Pro.
- Professional experience in multimedia journalism, audio production, video production, public relations, advertising, social media and other elements within the mass communication related discipline.
- Strong writing, graphic design, photographic and video production skills.
- Experience with both PC and Mac platforms as well as a variety of software applications.
- Strong understanding and command of all social media platforms.
