Tenure and Promotion: Tenure and promotion are awarded based on a review by a college‑wide committee of the candidate’s contributions to service, pedagogy and scholarship.
Job Summary: The school of Building & Architectural Technology program seeks a full‑time tenure‑track position in Interior Design. The candidate must possess a strong education and teaching background with high emphasis on hands‑on labs. Faculty will teach various Interior Design courses and certifications.
Sample courses expected to teach:
- IND 1233 – Studio I:
Fundamentals of Interiors - IND 1211 – History of Architecture & Interiors
- IND 1935 – Building & Barrier Free Design
- IND 1432 – Lighting for Interior Design
- IND 1429 – Textiles for Interior Design
- HHD 1361 – (course name)
- IND 2410 – Sustainable Design & Construction
- IND 2414 – Practical Interior Applications
- IND 2411 – Kitchen & Bath Design I
- IND 2411 – Kitchen & Bath Design II
- IND 2411 – Materials & estimating for Kitchen & Bath
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in interior design, architecture, or a related field.
- Minimum five years’ experience teaching Interior Design.
- At least five years of related work experience owning, managing or working in an interior design store.
- A current Florida Interior Design License is preferred.
Desired
Qualifications:
- Doctorate is preferred.
- Ability to teach daytime and evening classes.
- Ability to teach mathematics‑based estimating classes.
- Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Previous technical teaching/training experience preferred.
- Ability to use instructional aids in teaching (computer, multimedia, trainers, etc.).
- Ability to deliver active learning and learner‑centered pedagogies.
- Ability to make effective presentations.
- Ability to teach and develop courses and laboratory experiments.
- Ability to work with and motivate students.
- Commitment to student success and collaboration with first‑generation, low‑income, and underserved communities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teaching assigned courses.
- Using instructional technology methods when presenting course content.
- Communicating effectively and efficiently with students.
- Providing a written course syllabus with policies, procedures, grading, and learning outcomes.
- Using appropriate and up‑to‑date course materials.
- Applying classroom‑management strategies in face‑to‑face, hybrid, and/or online formats.
- Implementing student assessment policies such as testing or observation of skills.
- Submitting grades or other course assessment reports in a timely manner.
- Managing routine classroom responsibilities in a professional manner.
- Participating in professional development activities to advance competencies and teaching skills.
- Maintaining or acquiring required certifications, licensure, or other credentials.
- Serving on department, school, and college‑wide committees.
- Participating in promotion and continuing contract process.
- Attending academic functions at department, division, and college level.
- Keeping scheduled office hours as required.
- Recording student attendance as necessary.

- Knowledge of areas of discipline to be taught.
- Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and supervisors.
