The Academic Advisor collaborates with faculty and university departments to promote student engagement, persistence, and overall academic achievement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop personalized degree completion plans and guide students through course selection, registration, and academic planning to support timely graduation.
  • Monitor student academic progress throughout enrollment terms and provide proactive outreach, guidance, and intervention when challenges arise.
  • Advise students regarding program changes, academic petitions, curriculum waivers, catalog changes, graduation applications, and other academic requests.
  • Provide individualized support to at-risk students, including those on conditional admission, academic warning, or probation, by developing student success plans and monitoring progress.
  • Collaborate with faculty and university departments to address academic challenges and support student retention and persistence.
  • Promote institutional initiatives, scholarships, financial aid opportunities, honor societies, career resources, and student engagement programs.
  • Proactively communicate with students through phone, email, text/chat, and virtual meetings to provide guidance and promote student success.
  • Contact students throughout their academic journey, including newly admitted students, enrolled students, inactive students, and graduating students.
  • Welcome newly admitted students by providing information on degree requirements, enrollment steps, financial resources, orientation, and required university tasks.
  • Conduct regular student outreach to assess academic progress, address concerns, and identify resources needed for successful course completion.
  • Encourage student participation in advising appointments, university services, and engagement opportunities.
  • Support student transitions by congratulating graduates, recognizing academic achievements, and promoting alumni and university engagement opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate student records and documentation within university systems, including Campus Solutions, Salesforce, SharePoint, Imaging, and other applicable platforms.
  • Document advising interactions, student progress, and action plans through detailed advisor notes.
  • Analyze student academic records to identify enrollment concerns, degree progression issues, and opportunities for intervention.
  • Evaluate prerequisite completion and ensure students are meeting curriculum requirements.
  • Manage an assigned caseload of approximately 250 students while supporting enrollment goals and student persistence initiatives.
  • Prepare and review student reports, track academic trends, and contribute data insights related to retention and student success.
  • Provide coverage and support for team members' student caseloads as needed.
