Bethune-Cookman University is seeking engaging, student-centered Adjunct Instructors to teach Wildcat Foundations: B-CU Rising, a two-credit-hour, face-to-face course designed to help first-year students successfully transition to college and become engaged members of the University community. More than an introductory course, Wildcat Foundations: B-CU Rising helps students develop the knowledge, skills, habits, and connections needed for academic, personal, and professional success. Through topics such as goal setting, time management, academic success strategies, effective communication, campus engagement, career exploration, and self-advocacy, students are encouraged to take ownership of their education and build confidence in navigating the college experience.
Instructors serve as educators, mentors, and connectors who help students begin their Bethune-Cookman University experience
with clarity, confidence, connection, and a plan for success. The ideal candidate is passionate about working with first-year students and committed to creating an inclusive, engaging learning environment that fosters belonging, resilience, personal responsibility, and student success. Selected instructors will participate in required training and professional development related to the Wildcat Foundations curriculum, First-Year Experience initiatives, student engagement and mentoring, student development, academic success and persistence, campus resources, and Bethune-Cookman University’s culture, traditions, and expectations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Teach assigned sections of Wildcat Foundations: B-CU Rising in accordance with the approved curriculum, learning outcomes, and University expectations.
- Create an inclusive, welcoming, and engaging classroom environment that promotes participation, connection, and belonging.
- Facilitate learning experiences addressing:
- Goal setting, personal responsibility, and decision-making
- Time management, organization, study strategies, and academic success
- Critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication
- Self-advocacy, help-seeking, and use of campus resources
- Academic, career, and educational planning
- Campus engagement, community building, wellness, and resilience
- Help students understand college expectations and develop strategies for successfully navigating the college experience.
- Connect students with appropriate University resources, services, programs, and support systems.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback and maintain accurate attendance, grade, and student progress records.
- Recognize students who may need additional support and make appropriate referrals to University resources.
- Communicate professionally with students and collaborate with faculty, staff, advisors, student-support professionals, and other Wildcat Foundations instructors to promote student success.
- Participate in required adjunct orientation, training, professional development, and course coordination activities.
- Attend chapel services and designated first-year student programs and events.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with all applicable University policies and procedures.
- Perform other course-related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Master’s degree or higher from an accredited institution in education, counseling, student affairs, higher education, psychology, communication, social sciences, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience working with college students, emerging adults, or diverse student populations.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate, present, and facilitate effectively in a learning or group setting.
- Demonstrated ability to create an engaging, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to student success, development, and belonging.
- Proficiency with instructional technology and learning management systems.
