Job Title: Assistant Professor of Mathematics
Reporting Structure: Department Chair, Mathematics and Physics
Division: Mathematics & Physics, College of Science, Engineering & Mathematics
Duties/Responsibilities:- Teach undergraduate mathematics courses as assigned (such as developmental mathematics, college algebra, pre-calculus, or general education mathematics).
- Prepare and deliver engaging lectures and instructional materials.
- Develop and administer quizzes, exams, assignments, and other assessments.
- Maintain accurate student attendance and grade records.
- Hold office hours or scheduled student support sessions as required.
- Respond promptly to student questions and provide academic guidance.
- Submit grades and required reports by university deadlines.
- Utilize the Canvas learning management system and instructional technology.
- Maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Follow university policies and departmental procedures.
- Participate in faculty meetings or professional development activities as requested
- Strong knowledge of undergraduate mathematics.
- Effective classroom management and instructional techniques.
- Ability to motivate and mentor students.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Proficiency with instructional technology and learning management systems.
- Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in mathematics (College Prep only).
- Master’s in Mathematics or related field with 18 graduate hours in Mathematics
- Teaching experience preferred
- Ability to utilize technology and innovative pedagogy to enhance teaching and learning.
- Understanding of a commitment to working with a diverse student population in a multicultural environment.
Education:
- Master’s in Mathematics or related field with 18 graduate hours in Mathematics
- Experience teaching developmental mathematics, college algebra, or pre-calculus.
- Familiarity with online or hybrid instruction.
- Experience using Canvas or similar learning management systems.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while teaching classes.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff in person and through electronic communication.
- Ability to use a computer, keyboard, projector, and other instructional technology for prolonged periods.
- Ability to move throughout classrooms, offices, and campus facilities.
- Ability to lift and carry instructional materials, books, or equipment weighing up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office equipment, including computers, printers, and audiovisual equipment.
- Visual acuity sufficient to read printed materials, computer screens, and classroom presentations.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation in accordance with applicable federal and state laws.
