Davalyn Corporation has been retained to fill a Sales Applications Engineer position on behalf of a globally respected manufacturer of carbide cutting tools used in a wide range of CNC machining operations
—including milling, turning, drilling, grooving, and reaming
.

Our client serves top-tier manufacturers across the aerospace, defense, oil & gas, industrial, and precision component sectors. In addition to candidates with direct cutting tool sales and applications experience
, our client is also open to hiring individuals with a strong background in machine tools
—including sales engineers, applications engineers, and technical specialists from the CNC machine tool industry
.

This is a high-impact opportunity for a technical sales professional with strong knowledge of metal cutting, machining processes, and CNC equipment to engage directly with customers in metalworking and machining-intensive environments
.

• Manage and grow accounts by supporting CNC machine shops, job shops, tool & die makers, and OEMs in the application of advanced tooling and machine tool solutions
  .
• Conduct on-site product trials, troubleshoot machining and CNC performance issues
  , and recommend the appropriate use of indexable inserts, solid carbide end mills, HSS drills, reamers, and round tools
  .
• Deliver high-value consultation to customers on tool performance, chip load, feeds & speeds, cutting parameters, tool wear, and machining efficiency
  .
• Collaborate with machine tool builders (MTBs), distributors, plant managers, and manufacturing engineers to develop customized solutions and close technical sales.
• Provide training and demonstrations to shop floor teams, CNC programmers, and applications engineers on tooling geometry, CAM programming strategies, and machine setup best practices
  .
• Act as a trusted resource for optimizing machining performance, cycle times, tool life, spindle utilization, and overall part quality
  .

• Proven experience in technical sales or applications engineering for cutting tools or CNC machine tools
  —particularly in high-speed milling, turning, drilling, and multi-axis machining applications
  .
• Strong hands-on background in machining, metal cutting, or chipmaking
  , with expertise in the selection and use of tools such as:
• Solid carbide end mills, indexable tools, HSS drills, thread mills, boring bars, reamers, taps, and grooving inserts.
• Tool holding and work holding systems including collets, hydraulic chucks, vises, and modular fixtures.
• Familiarity with CNC machine tools (lathes, machining centers, Swiss machines, 5-axis machining) and CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360, Siemens NX) with working knowledge of G-code preferred.
• Experience calling on aerospace machining suppliers, automotive component manufacturers, industrial fabricators, or defense contractors is strongly valued.
• Deep understanding of cutting forces, heat zones, tool geometry, chip evacuation, and their relationship to machine speeds, feeds, coolant strategies, and part materials
  .
• Excellent presentation, customer service, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively on the shop floor as well as in executive-level sales discussions
  .
• Base Salary: Up to $90,000
• Incentives: Commission structure tied to sales performance
