Position: MRA (Mechatronics & Robotics Apprentice)

Mechatronics & Robotics Apprentice (MRA)

This permanent, full-time Mechatronics & Robotics Apprentice role is based in CITY, STATE and supports high-performance, highly automated operations within a large-scale fulfillment environment. You will learn to combine electronic, mechanical, computer, and automation engineering skills to support complex manufacturing, packaging, and distribution systems. Through structured on-the-job learning, you will develop the ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and repair robotics and material handling equipment to maintain safe, efficient, and reliable operations.

Responsibilities
  • Learn to install, maintain, and repair automated packaging and distribution equipment under the guidance of experienced technicians.
  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on conveyors and other material handling equipment using established job plans, procedures, and manuals.
  • Conduct maintenance and basic troubleshooting of robotics and robotic work cells to support high equipment availability.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues related to all material handling equipment components, including conveyors and automation systems.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot motors, photo eyes, relays, proximity sensors, solenoids, motor starters, tachometers, and related components.
  • Use technical documents, instructions, blueprints, and electrical schematics to complete maintenance and repair tasks in compliance with safety and operational standards.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and policies, and support the implementation of safety standards across maintenance activities.
  • Collaborate with upstream and downstream operations partners to coordinate maintenance activities and minimize disruption to production.
  • Work closely with journey workers and technicians across various facilities, including high automation and robotics sites, to build practical skills and experience.
  • Apply measurement reading and interpretation skills, as well as fundamental mathematics, to diagnose issues and verify proper equipment operation.
  • Support predictive and preventative maintenance procedures to improve equipment reliability and process efficiency.
  • Demonstrate effective communication and teamwork, and contribute to a respectful, cooperative work environment.
  • Meet physical requirements of the role, including moving up to 49 lbs, standing and walking for shifts up to 12 hours, climbing ladders and gangways safely, and performing regular bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching below the waist and above the head.
  • Work flexible schedules, including weekends, nights, and holidays, as required by operational needs.
  • Participate in and successfully complete a 9-week external training program with a designated training provider, as part of the apprenticeship.
  • Relocate after completion of the program if required, in line with program requirements.
Essential Skills
  • High school diploma.
  • 1+ years of experience using PC software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Vocational or technical training, or an associate degree or above, or 1+ years of experience in a reliability maintenance engineering environment.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing operational items in an industrial, mechanical, or technical setting.
  • Knowledge of mathematics sufficient to support troubleshooting, measurements, and technical problem-solving.
  • Experience reading and interpreting measurements to verify alignment, tolerances, and proper equipment setup.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends, nights, and holidays.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements, including lifting up to 49 lbs, standing and walking for up to 12-hour shifts, climbing ladders and gangways, and performing frequent bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching.
  • Foundational troubleshooting skills in mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Self-motivation and the ability to work collaboratively with operations partners.
  • Willingness and flexibility to relocate after completion of the apprenticeship program.
  • Ability to enroll in and attend a 9-week training program at a designated training provider.
  • Ability to meet the minimum qualifying score on a Mechanical Aptitude Test.

Skills & Qualifications
  • 4+ years of military experience, particularly in technical, mechanical, or maintenance roles.
  • Experience conducting predictive and preventative maintenance procedures in an industrial or automated environment.
  • Experience troubleshooting and diagnosing material handling equipment (MHE), such as conveyors and automated sortation systems.
  • Experience implementing and reinforcing safety standards in maintenance or operations environments.
  • Experience reading and interpreting blueprints and electrical schematics.
  • Hands-on experience with troubleshooting, maintenance, and installation of equipment, including pneumatics and electrical systems.
