* Position Overview:

*
* The purpose of this position is to develop processes for new product manufacturing, optimize existing processes and products, and support cost reduction initiatives. This role includes significant collaboration with machine shop operations, including CNC machining, fabrication, and precision component manufacturing, to ensure manufacturability, quality, and efficiency of machined parts and assemblies.

*
* Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

*
* + Develop/improve manufacturing processes through research, design, and modification of manufacturing methods/equipment, with a strong focus on machining processes such as CNC milling, turning, grinding, and secondary operations (deburring, finishing, etc.).

+ Create/revise documentation for assembly and test processes, including detailed machining work instructions, setup sheets, tooling requirements, and inspection criteria.

+ Design and fabricate fixtures and tools for assembly and test processes, as well as machining fixtures, work holding solutions, jigs, and tooling to support efficient and repeatable machining operations.

+ Improve manufacturing efficiencies by analyzing the product flow, space requirements, and equipment layout, including machine shop workflow, spindle utilization, tool change optimization, and setup reduction (SMED principles).

+ Provide input to the design review process for the review and development of assembly tools/fixtures, test equipment and HSE considerations, including Design for Manufacturability (DFM) feedback specific to machining tolerances, material selection, and machining feasibility.

+ Continuously improve assembly and test processes (using Lean and 6-Sigma techniques), as well as machining processes through cycle time reduction, scrap reduction, and tooling optimization.

+ Identify and implement tools and equipment modifications to increase product throughput and lower cost, including CNC program improvements, cutting tool selection, feeds/speeds optimization, and machine capability enhancements.

+ Develop and implement training for equipment and processes. Provide training and coaching to technicians, including machinists on setup techniques, blueprint interpretation, GD&T, and machining best practices.

+ Assist with Failure Analysis and problem solving to determine root cause of failures and implement corrective actions, with emphasis on machining-related defects such as surface finish issues, dimensional nonconformance, tool wear, and material distortions.

+ Participate in Continuous Improvement (CI) events utilizing Lean tools to improve process efficiencies and throughput, including Kaizen events within machine shop operations.

*
* Education and Experience:

*
* + BS degree in Engineering preferred - Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial or Engineering Technology.

+ 1-3 years of Manufacturing Engineering experience within a machine shop or assembly environment.

+ Demonstrated experience working in or directly supporting machine shop operations, including CNC machining (mills, lathes), fabrication, and precision metal or composite components.

+

Experience with machining processes, tooling, work holding, and cutting parameters strongly preferred.

+ Previous experience with Fiber Optic assembly preferred.
