Process Manufacturing Engineer / Set-Up Technician

The Process Manufacturing Engineer / Set-Up Technician sets up, validates, and optimizes complex CNC machining operations, including true 5-axis machining centers, multi-axis mills, and CNC lathes. This role acts as a technical leader on the shop floor, driving process improvements, troubleshooting manufacturing challenges, and supporting projects from programming through production launch. The position also offers growth into broader manufacturing engineering responsibilities through Cam Works training and ongoing process development work.

Responsibilities
  • Set up, prove out, and optimize true 5-axis CNC machining centers, multi-axis mills, and CNC lathes for production.
  • Validate new and existing CNC machining processes to ensure repeatability, quality, and efficiency.
  • Develop and refine CNC programs, working from engineering drawings and models to achieve robust machining processes.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts for complex machining and process issues, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in machining processes, tooling strategies, and setups to improve cycle time, quality, and throughput.
  • Support manufacturing engineering projects, including process validation, tooling selection, and fixture design reviews.
  • Contribute to production launches and new product introductions by developing and stabilizing machining processes prior to full-scale production.
  • Train and support operators and other personnel on proper CNC setup, operation, and process best practices.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to ensure that machining processes align with design intent and quality requirements.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of setups, process parameters, and improvements to support repeatable production.
Essential Skills
  • 3–5+ years of experience in a process or manufacturing engineering role, with a strong focus on CNC machining.
  • Extensive hands-on experience independently setting up, proving out, and optimizing true 5-axis CNC machining centers.
  • Proficiency in CNC programming and working with CNC programs for complex parts and operations.
  • Experience with CAM software, such as Cam Works or other comparable CAM platforms.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, tooling specifications, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) requirements.
  • Solid Works experience for working with 3D models and supporting manufacturing processes.
  • Experience in process development, continuous improvement, or manufacturing engineering projects.
  • Experience supporting production launches and new product introductions from a machining and process standpoint.
Additional

Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with Cam Works specifically, or the ability and willingness to develop advanced skills in Cam Works.
  • Background in process validation, including documenting and verifying machining processes for consistency and quality.
  • Exposure to tooling selection and fixture design reviews to ensure stable and efficient machining processes.
  • Interest in growing into a broader manufacturing engineering role through ongoing training and project responsibilities.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset and the ability to lead technical discussions on process improvements.
Work Environment

This role operates in a precision manufacturing environment with advanced CNC machining equipment, including true 5-axis machining centers, multi-axis mills, and CNC lathes. You will work closely with production, engineering, and programming teams, moving regularly between the shop floor and technical workstations used for CAM programming and Solid Works. The environment emphasizes process optimization, continuous improvement, and collaboration to support production launches and new product introductions.
