Overview
The Registered Nurse is responsible and accountable for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating as per the nursing process. The Registered Nurse directs, delegates, and coordinates all nursing care provided by the LPN, CNA, Patient Care Companion, and Unit Clerk consistent with their roles, responsibilities, and skill level. Assignments are performed appropriately to the age and development level of the patient population served.
Responsibilities- Assess the patient on admission and monitor ongoing status.
- Assess patient/family learning needs and initiate individualized teaching plans to ensure positive outcomes and timely discharge.
- Plan and coordinate care based on assessment of the patient’s status and ongoing identified needs.
- Involve family/significant others in the plan of care as desired by the patient.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to achieve desired patient outcomes.
- Initiate and verify physician orders; utilize nursing judgment in the provision of care.
- Evaluate patient/family response to interventions and progress toward desired outcomes.
- Organize patient care based on patient needs and available resources.
- Serve as the patient advocate by providing compassionate nursing care individualized to meet the special needs of each patient.
- Identify priorities for care of assigned patients and coordinate patient care activities with services provided by ancillary departments to optimize outcomes.
- Demonstrate professional development, accountability, and leadership in the performance of professional nursing practice.
- Adhere to Cornerstone standards and hospital mission and values at all times.
- Report to work as scheduled and maintain a professional appearance in accordance with policy.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and act in an ethical manner; follow legal and ethical guidelines in nursing care.
- Maintain competencies and continue development of professional/clinical knowledge through continuing education.
- Assist with staff orientation and professional development.
- Contribute to a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and co-workers.
- Support research and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
- Administer medications according to established policies and comply with patient safety goals and programs.
- RN – State of Florida.
- Degree from an accredited school of nursing; bachelor degree preferred.
- Completion of general and nursing orientation.
- Completion of unit orientation and unit-specific competency checklist.
- Professionalism in interpersonal communication skills with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Certifications as required by the specific unit/area (refer to required certification addendum).
- Completion of annual competency based learning modules (CBLs).
- Excellent communication skills in dealing with physicians, patients, families, and other disciplines.
- Follows legal and ethical guidelines in providing nursing care.
- Maintains competencies and continues development of professional/clinical knowledge base through continuing education.
- Ability to coordinate care and work with the unit team to achieve positive patient outcomes.
