As a part of a global public health organization, you will be supporting the Florida Department of Health in Volusia County, dedicated to protecting, promoting, and enhancing the health of all Florida residents. Your primary responsibility as a NURSING PROGRAM SPECIALIST - , is to oversee and supervise the Tuberculosis (TB) program for Volusia County, ensuring efficient public health service delivery.

Additionally, you will assist with Refugee Health initiatives. This position requires a high level of independent judgment and reports to the Executive Community Health Nursing Director - SES.

• Provide direct patient care and case management for individuals with latent tuberculosis infection or active tuberculosis.
• Conduct thorough patient assessments, including physical examinations and nursing diagnoses, and develop comprehensive care plans in accordance with CDC guidelines.
• Educate patients about the disease, its transmission, prevention methods, and treatment regimens.
• Collaborate with infection control departments, physicians, and health offices to enhance disease reporting and surveillance.
• Investigate disease outbreaks and implement containment measures for communicable diseases reported to Volusia CHD.
• Ensure continuity of care for patients between Volusia CHD and other healthcare providers.
• Perform or assist with Directly Observed Therapy (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). Directly Observed Preventive Therapy (DOPT).
• Monitor Electronic Disease Notification (EDN) system and conduct quarterly audits of TB program activities.

• Coordinate field services, including Directly Observed Therapy  contact investigations for Refugee Health.
• Ensure that support personnel provide services in compliance with Florida statutes and CDC guidelines for tuberculosis and refugee health care.
• Accurately document all data in a timely manner and make educational materials available for patients and providers.
• Act as a liaison between Volusia CHD TB and Refugee Health programs, Florida DOH, committees, and agencies within the service region.

• Stay updated on communicable diseases through research and educational events and apply relevant information to your work.
• Conduct community outreach and deliver presentations on TB and communicable diseases.
• Participate in staff development, team meetings, in-service training, and continuing education.
• Ensure timely submission of necessary documentation, including EARs, timesheets, telephone invoices, and travel records.

• Thorough understanding of nursing principles, practices, and techniques in specialized areas.
• In-depth knowledge of TB prevention and treatment guidelines.
• Proficiency in conducting disease investigations.

Minimum Requirements:

• Knowledge of nursing principles, practices, and techniques in specialized areas.
• Familiarity with TB prevention and treatment guidelines.
• Skilled in conducting disease investigations.
• Possession of a current, active Florida Registered Nursing license or a multistate Nursing license from another Compact State in good standing.
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university or at least 1 year of experience as a registered nurse.
• Experience working in a clinic or community setting.

• Knowledge of TB prevention and treatment guidelines.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Current BLS certification.
