Essential Job Functions
  • Provides medical leadership to assigned regions.
  • Utilizes evidence based medicine for the medical management of illness and prevention.
  • Ensures continuity between programs, plans new initiatives, writes documents and reports, and generally works to ensure the growth of SMA's programs.
  • Oversees direction of services provided by SMA's APRNs; supervises and establishes/maintains medical protocols implemented by APRNs.
  • Provides direct medical care to SMA's clients.
  • Provides consultation services to the affiliated hospitals' emergency rooms and other areas of the hospitals as relates to SMA clients.
  • When necessary, provides information to authorized managed care representatives for continuation of hospital stays.
  • Attends Baker Act and/or Marchman Act hearings when required.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to ensure SMA's compliance with the provisions of the Florida Mental Health Act (Baker Act), the Florida Administrative Code (The Rule), and any guidelines regarding implementation of the Baker Act.
  • Collaborates with and provides guidance to SMA administration in the development of a plan and pattern of professional coverage for SMA psychiatric services.
  • Provides leadership, guidance, and education to treatment teams across SMA's services to build and maintain a consistent psychiatric service delivery to SMA clients.
  • Collaborates with site administrators in the management and oversight of service delivery, scheduling, and general supervision of nurse practitioners.
  • Prioritizes daily work of self and medical staff so as to maximize the efficient operation of the programs for which responsible.
  • When providing direct care to clients, conducts a complete, detailed, and accurate history and physical examination, and records pertinent data in agency electronic health record.
  • Initiates treatment plans; records client progress; compiles detailed records when monitoring medication therapies, orders diagnostic tests, determines health status of the client, orders medications and provides other duties as required by law and SMA.
  • Reviews medical records in accordance with state and regulatory guidelines.
  • Participates in regulatory audits as requested.
  • Conducts systematic reviews to ensure billings are not fraudulent or unlawful, and upon discovery of an unlawful charge, takes immediate corrective action.
  • Attends SMA departmental meetings as directed by supervisor.
  • Performs related work as required.
Qualification Requirements

Minimum Education and/or Experience

M.D. Psychiatrist with Florida License and a minimum of three (3) years psychiatric residency training from an accredited residency-training program in the United States. Considerable knowledge of all psychiatric and detoxification procedures, medications, side effects, and mental illnesses relating to clients. Licensed to practice in Florida. Five years of progressively responsible managerial experience is preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities
  • Knowledgeable and demonstrates competence in current evidence based medicine, medical protocols and practices including medical supervision of physicians and APRNs.
  • Ability to provide evidence based medical treatment to children and adults in the primary care clinic.
  • Knowledgeable and understanding of rules, regulations, safety procedures, state, federal and local laws, and legislative requirements pertaining to medical treatment programs and program compliance.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with other employees, program staff, clients, outside organizations, and others.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, medical and clinical professionals, and the general public.
  • Ability to prepare clear and concise written reports.
Necessary

Special Requirements

Possession of a valid Florida driver's license, acceptable driving record, and proof of personal automobile insurance if required to drive anSMA vehicle and/or use a personal vehicle for SMA business. Complete State of Florida mandatory background screening prior to start of employment. Complete SMA required training during thefirst six (6) months of employment and updated if required.

Physical
