Job Description
Embry‑Riddle Aeronautical University is seeking a skilled Painter to join the Facilities team in Daytona Beach, Florida. This position is responsible for performing interior and exterior painting, finishing, and surface preparation work to maintain the appearance, safety, and functionality of university buildings and facilities. The Painter supports routine maintenance, renovations, and special projects across academic, residential, and administrative spaces while delivering high‑quality workmanship and exceptional customer service.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with Facilities staff and other campus departments to help maintain a safe, attractive, and welcoming campus environment.
- Perform interior and exterior painting, staining, coating, and finishing work on university facilities.
- Prepare surfaces through cleaning, sanding, patching, caulking, and priming to ensure quality finishes.
- Inspect, maintain, and repair painted surfaces, including touch‑ups and minor repairs.
- Safely operate and maintain painting equipment, ladders, lifts, scaffolding, and related tools.
- Follow all safety procedures and regulations related to paints, coatings, chemicals, and equipment.
- Collaborate with Facilities personnel and communicate professionally with faculty, staff, and students.
- Maintain painting supplies, equipment, and work areas.
- Assist with campus beautification projects, event support, and special maintenance initiatives.
- Support other Facilities trades with basic maintenance tasks as needed.
- Complete work orders and other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Three to five years of painting, finishing, maintenance, or related facilities experience.
- Knowledge of surface preparation techniques, including sanding, patching, caulking, and priming.
- Experience applying paints, stains, sealants, and coatings using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret work orders, schedules, and basic drawings.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and safe handling of paints, chemicals, and hazardous materials.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in an active campus environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Effective communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to lift materials, climb ladders, work at heights, and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Experience in commercial, institutional, or higher education facilities maintenance.
- Experience operating lifts, scaffolding, pressure washers, and paint spraying equipment.
- Knowledge of specialty coatings and finishing techniques.
- Experience working in occupied facilities while maintaining a high level of customer service.
The hourly range for this role is $19.00 to $20.00. The final offer will be based on the candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience, as well as applicable state regulations, internal equity, and business needs, and may fall outside of the stated range.
