Automotive Technician
The County of Volusia is seeking Automotive Technicians for the Automotive and Light Truck shop, to work with the Fleet Management Division located in Daytona Beach, Florida. This position requires basic maintenance and repair of automobiles, trucks, specialized vehicles and/or construction equipment.

There will be a skills test required for this position.
The job entails performing a variety of routine repair and adjustment tasks that typically do not involve diagnosing problems or that which require in-depth mechanical knowledge and skill. It also includes completing uncomplicated repair tasks such as safety checks, hydraulic repairs, changing belts and hoses, removal of radio equipment and vehicle cages, preparing vehicles, trucks and equipment for service and decommissioning vehicles and equipment for auctions.
Additionally, it involves completing minor preventive maintenance services including changing oil, fluids, tires, batteries, wipers and bulbs on heavy trucks and equipment.
The position requires producing minimum billable hours equal to or greater than 80% of total hours worked, possessing hand tools and equipment up through 3/4" air and electric power tools necessary for the performance of job duties, and possessing a valid driver's license at time of appointment. A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum requirements.
Incentive pay is available up to $8.00 per hour for qualifying ASE, EVT certifications, and Class A CDL with Hazmat and Tanker endorsements. Tool reimbursement is available up to $400 annually, and a work boots allowance of $150 annually is provided.
The pay ranges for Automotive Technician I, II, and III are based on experience and certifications, with the minimum starting pay for Technician I being $17.76 per hour, Technician II ranging from $21.15 to $22.00 per hour, and Technician III ranging from $22.11 to $25.00 per hour.
The position requires knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and standard practices of the automotive mechanic's trade, principles and operation of gasoline and diesel fueled internal combustion engines, automotive electrical systems, occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade, operating and repair characteristics of a wide variety of public works equipment and related machinery, and the ability to diagnose trouble prior to starting repairs in automotive and other construction and maintenance equipment.
The job also requires the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, skilled use of tools, machines, and testing instruments of the mechanic's trade, ability to work under stressful conditions, ability to respond to emergency situations, ability to interact effectively with others, and ability to relocate to other county locations based upon operational needs.
